We all need (and value!) our sleep, especially as parents. And ever since having kids, it’s rare – extremely rare! – that I will sleep all the way through the night without waking up. Most of the time, my body wakes up because of bathroom necessities (pregnancy has you running to the bathroom quite frequently day AND night). Thankfully, I can usually fall back to sleep quickly, but the constant waking up tends to run me down over a period of days.
Add allergies on top of that and my nighttime rest has not been good this summer. The other night my husband and I both were up sniffling, blowing our noses, and just being miserable in general (misery does love company, after all!). Normally I diffuse my allergy blend for these occasions, but I reached for an essential oil I had primarily bought for my children – Rocky Mountain Oil’s “Peace & Quiet“. Now I use this oil sparingly usually becomes it’s the most expensive blend I have! However, I just wanted some uninterrupted sleep and was praying this oil would do the trick.
I added about 5-6 drops of Peace & Quiet to my diffuser (held about 100 ml of water). I slept from about 10:45pm until 6:00am without waking up once. It was the most restful sleep I had had in a very long time! I loved drifting off to scents of Sandalwood, Lemon, and Vanilla. It had such a great smell and I could definitely feel my mind relax as I breathed in the aromas.
While the price might scare some people away, I can attest that it really does work and is so worth it! It’s gentle enough to diffuse in the kids room, and you can even mix Peace & Quiet in a spray bottle and spritz you and/or your kids’ pillows and sheets with it to allow you to breathe it in overnight.
We’ve been using this blend for the past several nights now. Interestingly enough, last night I got to bed later and didn’t diffuse anything – this morning, my allergies came back full force and I’ve been sneezing all day. Needless to say, I WILL be using my essential oils tonight!
There are also many other essential oils that you can utilize for a better rest at night, and one of my favorite ways of application is by making a rub for the feet or back (or even chest during cold seasons!). This Sweet Dreams salve is one of my go-to’s because it’s effective AND child safe!
